As a teenager, I always thought that God was this big guy who sat in front of a massive screen in his beautiful golden house in heaven and had a never ending box of popcorn or whatever snack He liked and a big bottle of ‘Fanta’ (because I love Fanta) in front of him and had in his hands an ultimate remote control for directing people and things. And that my own life story was appearing on the farthest screen to him and most probably on auto-play and He would only check in on me once in a while. Another thought I considered was how tiring it would be for God to be the God and Father of all, I mean I know even my mum gets tired of nursing all four of her kids. So imagine how God must have his hands full being father of all….good thinking right? However, on the contrary, God loves me, you and every other person in the world that He created and immensely interested in our lives.
I was raised in a very religious environment, where coming to church equaled to being a child of God, at-least to my parents and every of those church members. One would have thought that the fact that we practically lived in church would have made me grow in God, I mean that happened for Samuel but nope! I did not have a relationship with God, I didn’t even know him so I couldn’t relate to the loving Father He is. I wasn’t interested in getting close either, because of how difficult people made it seem. I just wanted to do my stuff my way , as far as I was concerned, God could stay on His lane and use His remote control the way He pleaded. I sincerely gave up all hope of knowing Him or understanding His love for me and the earth. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life…John3:16(NKJV) was a verse that was taught to us while we were growing up. It was a scripture I knew whole heartedly at that time, I could recite it confidently yet I didn’t understand it. I did not realize that God’s love was beyond how I felt and what I thought. I couldn’t fathom the depth of His love for us humans.
On entering the university, God led me to a church where I experienced His love. I was loved genuinely by people He put in my life. God was able to groom me through this people, I was accepted by a family who represented God and showed love to me despite my inadequacies. Slowly and gently I came into understanding of who God is and I fell immensely in love with Him who loved me so much. God became real to me, and of his own accord He revealed himself to me and I became interested in knowing Him.
Just as I have found out, I want to let you know that God is love. He loves you and nothing could ever make him stop loving you. The love of God is different from that of men, I mean even before you were conceived, He thought about you and with his everlasting love he has loved you. Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.(Jeremiah 31:3)’
God’s love for us can be seen in the life of Adam. After he created him, God granted Adam authority over all He had created. In Genesis 1:28, God’s intention for Adam were made known, Adam was to be fruitful, multiply, and replenish the earth and subdue it……he was to take control of the earth. God gave Adam charge of the earth and power to be in control. We also saw that God cherished a relationship with man, it was recorded that, in the cool of the day; God fellowships with Adam. Adam wasn’t a creature to God; Adam was a Son, he was the first Son of God. Luke 3:38 shows us that Adam was the son of God. Through his shortcomings however, man fell, lost his sonship and sold out his authority to the devil. The devil became the god of this world.
The fall of Adam tried to separate mankind from God (Genesis 3:8-10) and made man get into a situation where he now had a standard to contend with; getting back in fellowship with his father.
Extremely annoying right? The teenage version of me that read the story of the fall of man was angry, grumpy and wondered why the rest of the mankind has to contend with life struggles because Adam and Eve bit of the Fruit, I bet you feel the same way.
I have Good News friends; God loves us too much that even when we tried to fall out of his love he bought us back. He immediately generated a redemption plan. He decided to send a savior that reconciled us back to right standing with him. He gave us Jesus. Jesus gave you the way out of the struggling life already. The everlasting life that Jesus brings in John3:16 covers every struggle you can ever think of… Academic, Spiritual, Mental, Financial, Medical any struggle at all… Jesus died and paid for them. God the Father; sent His only begotten son to buy everyman from their misery. Yes, man lost his bearing and he sold out to the devil; God’s amazing love however brought you back to fellowship with Him……
God bought you friend; making Jesus the payment for your sins and restored you back to a lifestyle of constant fellowship with him, a quality life filled with life and peace…rid of death, sin, poverty and shame. He has restored you back to the place that Adam was before he sold out to the devil. You are now a son of God by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was the payment for your sins and transgressions. He took them away once and for all so you can now cry Abba Father;(Daddy Father)……’And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “
Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. ( Romans 8:15).’
You can now go to God boldly for He is a father who is mindful of you and loves you extremely because Jesus paid the price for your salvation in full. In the Old Testament; blood of goats and flocks were used for remission of sin; but as newborns in Christ Jesus; Jesus paid in full at Calvary’s cross with his blood. You are loved by Christ Jesus and by Abba Father. Enjoy the love and peace… It lasts till eternity
Shut off all distractions and say out calmly and slowly; Dear Father, thank you for sending Jesus to die for me… Thank you for restoring me to my place in the family. I receive your love, please help me understand and be deeply rooted in it. Amen
