Hello loved one, I know you have heard about Grace a bazillion timesand when people talk about Grace, you hear them say things like ‘ by the Grace of God, God’s grace. Even you yourself might have mentioned the word grace a couple of times without fully understanding what it means.
To me, Grace is a mystery…a beautiful mystery we received freely after we received Jesus’ love. In the scriptures, we have recorded a couple of people who found grace.
They were able to do extraordinary things with their lives, they were able to live for God and stay amiable in the hallmark of faith. One thing we can see that’s peculiar in the lives of these Grace generals is; they all were undeserving of that Grace they received. By the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, we would be going through scriptures together and I will be explaining to you what Grace is by taking a look at the lives of these Grace Generals.
Let’s start with Noah. Genesis 6:8 KJV says;
‘But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord’.
Noah, was a man chosen by God to restore his people back to God.He wasn’t the only man in his generation; yet, God told him he found grace. He was undeserving to have a talk with God, someone might wonder why I called him ‘undeserving’, here’s why….Noah was a drunk! A drunk has been defined to be a chronic drinker of alcohol. Noah was a drunk, he didn’t just drink a glass or a bottle of alcoholic drink, he drinks a whole lot of alcohol, and we all know what happens to drunks….he was probably indebted to people, always babbling out the wrong things here and there, doing very bad things under the influence of the immense quantity of alcohol he always consumed. He was a family man, so maybe he got angry once or twice or more and beat his wife up while he was drunk or he might have even slept in the dump for a while thinking it was home and maybe a particular day, he even walked home naked. However, the bible says that ‘BUT, Noah found Grace in the eyes of God.’
The world was so per-versed in Noah’s time that when God decided to cleanse the earth and redirect people from their evil ways, God could have chosen anyone to build the ark but guess who He chose….Noah, Noah the drunk!
Disregarding who he was, what he did, how unworthily he lived his life, one thing only mattered that made him worthy ‘ He found Grace’. God gave Noah instructions to build the ark and to warn the people against the great flood that will destroy the earth. Despite who he was, Noah became God’s spokesman to His people, he was God’s voice, and the assurance that God was present with them. Really? Noah the drunk! I bet that would have been my opinion if I was in Noah’s town and he was telling me about God. However, God did not care how the people looked at him or what the people thought of him or his inadequacies or insecurities……he found Grace. God’s grace helps you do the extraordinary. A drunken man actually listened to God’s instructions and carried them out to the last letter, he even observed every not so important punctuation. After God gave Noah instructions to build the Ark, He blessed Noah and gave promises to His generation. God used Noah the drunk, to save the world. Wow! I’m sure you are like, God? Wait! What?! A drunk??? No one else? That is exactly what Grace is… Calling the undeserving, loving them, using them and showering blessings on them. Grace is God’s willingness to bring the seemingly bad guys back to Him, use them for great exploits and help them reign in life.
Moses, was another man we respect so much in the bible but, often times, we forget how bad Moses was, how undeserving he was. Moses was a stammerer, murderer, a liar and a vagabond. He grew up in the palace and received special treatment (probably very spoilt), could barely make a comprehensible statement because he was a stammerer and probably suffered from low self-esteem due to that. He killed an Egyptian and when asked about it, he lied! He had another man’s blood on his hands because he murdered him, lied about it and fled….Exodus 2:11-15.
Despite all of these, he found Grace too. God told Moses ‘I know you by name, and you have also found grace in My sight’…..Exodus 33:13. Out of the hundreds of thousands of Israelites that He would have used to deliver his people, God chose Moses…Moses, the stammerer, the liar and murderer. He was the one God chose to lead the people out of Egypt and worked miracles through Him? Really, God?!?! That one?!? Just because Moses found Grace??
These people; Noah the Drunk; Moses the Murderer; and even Cain the vagabond enjoyed Grace. Cain killed his own blood brother out of envy and jealousy and when he begged God to put a mark of ‘touch not’ on him so that nobody would kill him after he killed his brother Abel, God did put a mark on him that prevented people from killing him. These people were in the Old Testament and God showed them so much favor and grace despite their sins and inadequacies. They found Grace in the sight of God…..they were loved by Him irregardless of their flaws and overlaps, their lies and their schemes. God loved them and called them to Him, gave them a message and also helped them deliver it…that is Grace. They were able to live up to God’s standard because of God’s grace over their lives much so that when they fell, God picked them up and refueled their strength.
If God could love those people in the Old Testament like that and help them live a remarkable life, you can only understand through His spirit how much grace you have. You are the apple of God’s eye….His priority, better than all the legends in the Old Testament because you have received Christ and all your sin has been deleted, without a recycle bin to recover them. Because of the singular fact that you are born of God, you have been given Grace by God freely…..John 1:16-17; and of His fullness we have all received and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
Romans 3:24 says that; ‘for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. Jesus had to restore us back to fellowship with God because Adam sold out our place to the devil and made us fall short of the glory of God. Jesus’ death and resurrection bought back our place; gave us Grace for Grace such that you never run out of Grace and also you are forever worthy before God the father. God has called you justified and rid you of all your sins; past, present, future because of the death of Jesus, his blood was the final sacrifice for all your sins.
Romans 3:25-26; ‘whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus’. You have received Grace from God through faith in Jesus. There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. You are free from sin and law and now fit to live by Grace through FAITH in Jesus Christ, God doesn’t see your sins, He deleted them that day you received Jesus and He is not storing new one up, He doesn’t have a recycle bin for the old ones, He sees you as His righteousness in Christ Jesus.
God is extremely Holy and Righteous and He cannot stand sin. In case you are wondering where that leaves you and your inadequacies, here’s the thing, because God loves you so much and you were living a sinful life, He sent Jesus (God The Son) who is extremely Holy and Righteous to pay for all your sins, past, present, future… Once and for all. So that you won’t have to pay for your sins, so that you will be free to call God ‘Father’. Jesus bought you from the wages of your sin and gave you life and in its best quality, not as a servant but as a son. Remember the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11). You are that prodigal son, so loved by the father that He died for you so you can come to Him boldly as a son. Because you received the warmth embrace of love of God the Father through the acceptance of the life of God the Son, you are now as Righteous and Holy as God is. Righteousness simply means right standing with God without guilt or shame. You are now the righteousness of God in Jesus. You are as Holy and as Righteous as God is because, your sins have been paid for, all of it. Jesus Christ bore all our sins; died and shed his blood as the final sacrifice for our sins……2 Corinthians 5:21; ‘For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him’. You have been restored back to your sonship by GRACE through FAITH in Christ Jesus, enjoy this grace Jesus gave it freely because the Father loves you so much. You can now live a life fully pleasing to God like the generals you look up to in the Bible, you are in the dispensation of help as that’s what Grace does for you.
Forward Step: Ask God for Grace in any area of your life that seems to be crooked. Bearing in mind that He is your Father and will freely give you ANYTHING you ask for in the name of His son…shalom.
