A couple of times before now, I used to wish I was born during the times Christ lived on earth as a man….you know, to have a live conversation with Jesus, talk to him about everything, follow him everywhere he goes and just do whatever he says to me. I thought to myself, I’d probably not live in my house anymore… I’d follow Jesus everywhere, learn at his feet, crack jokes with him, watch him perform all his miracles and just cheer him on. As Christians, I’m sure some if not all of us have also considered this thought, you’ve probably said to yourself ‘my life would be easier if I was born when Jesus was living in this world’. And this thought leaves us feeling some type of way.
However love, I want to let you know that you are not at a disadvantage. In fact, I’m of the opinion that we are more lucky than most of the guys in Jesus’ time. Why? because, they couldn’t make the most of Jesus’ presence while he dwelt amongst them. Half the time they had with Jesus was spent doubting and arguing whether or not He was the son sent from the Father. The other half was lost in following after the crowd day in day out, not to particularly learn from him but to see and watch as a spectacle the miracles he performs. But we have a better promise, a better Grace to help us stay around Jesus for as much as we would love to. John 16:7…..’Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you’.
I believe it would have been
crazy if Jesus had left the earth without any hope or any mark or something that reminds us that He was once here. How would we in this generation have known him, maybe we would read stories but we wouldn’t have experiential knowledge of him. He knew this, He knew that it would be difficult living a life consecrated to Him without much help and encouragement. So while He was still here, He gave us the promise of one to come after him, our comforter in person of the Holy Spirit. If Jesus had left without the comforter to fill the void, christianity and the purpose of fellowship would have been impossible because a lot His followers (we Christians) would have felt abandoned by the master. Jesus had you in mind, He always has and always will have you in mind. He knew you might feel helpless and comfort less so he sent the Holy Spirit. Ezekiel 11:19….’Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in My statutes and keep My judgments and do them; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God’.
The Holy Spirit is the promise of Jesus to you as a believer, Jesus knew that it could have been easy for people to walk away from the faith, so he sent a helper, the Holy Spirit.
A lot of Christians in this age ignore the ministry of the Holy Spirit, maybe because they are ignorant of it or they see it as spooky, maybe even think it’s unreal or unimportant. I grew up in a Christian home where much emphasis wasn’t made on grace and the Holy Spirit. All I knew about him then was His language (speaking in tongues). I did not understand why I was praying in tongues, but I knew I did. It wasn’t until I came in contact with teachings about Grace and the ministry of the Holy Spirit, did I understand the importance of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is very important to a believer, He is the fulfillment of the promise of Jesus Christ. He is the strengthener, the teacher, the reminder, the intercessor, the advocate of a believer. Joel 2:28…..’And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions’.
Contrary to what people have said about the Holy Spirit, he is a person, not a thing. He is the third person in the trinity. Third not because he is the least powerful but third because he was revealed last to us. God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, He is the whole essence of God. He is the spirit of God, the enabler for the believer, for Jesus to live a life of fullness, He needed the Holy Spirit. Yeah, Almighty Jesus.
My point here is to make you understand the importance of the Spirit of God, infinite in us. He didn’t come to hover around our heads, he came to dwell in us, to help us walk, protect us, direct and many more. What’s in it for us? Everything. He knows this world better than we do I mean he was in the beginning and he is the spirit of God, who would you rather have to help you? Trust me, I choose him. Don’t waste time trying to help yourself, you help yourself the right way by acknowledging him. Trusting in him with the little things, that’s where it all begins and he definitely will direct your path.
Forward step: Acknowledge the ministry of the Holy Spirit, accept that He is real and important to your walk with God as a believer. Desire that He comes into your heart and allow him lead you in life.
