Journaling is a beautiful way to keep track of things, events, memories, it helps to remind yourself about your set goals, let it all out to someone even if it’s just a book, divulge your deepest secrets. With a journal, you feel like there’s an actual person you are talking to, that’s listening to your every thought, words and goals, only that it can’t talk back to you. A lot of people keep journals, I have a several points in my life and I’m sure you have to. Some people believe it’s a girly thing but trust me I know men who have journals. Keeping journals is good friend, in fact if you don’t have one yet I recommend you do today.
However I’d recommend a God-Journal before a normal random one.
A God-Journal is a unique kind of journal where you put down your thoughts towards God or the conversations you have with Him, Jeremiah 30:2….”Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, ‘Write all the words which I have spoken to you in a book’.
Your God-Journal is that book that you write down everything that you want to tell God, what God has told you, how you feel about certain things, what you need help with, God’s plans for you and all of that. It’s like writing long letters to God and writing down His replies to you. God is chatty, He always wants you to feel special, always willing to talk to you about things, always willing to help out and tell us secrets. God has secrets about you, 1 Corinthians 3:2…“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” However, God reveals them to us through His Spirit…1 Corinthians 2:10-12, ‘For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God’.
The only problem is that we are not patient enough to listen to the things He has to say most times. Neither do we invest in the time of fellowship because it is in the place of fellowshipping that these things will be revealed to us. Keeping a God-journal will help you to listen better to God, it will help you pay more attention to fellowship with God. Fellowship with God is basically relationship with God and every good relationship is built on good communication. Your God-journal will definitely improve communication with God and sharpen your listening skills.
Forward step: Get a journal, start with writing a letter to God, stating everything you’ve ever wanted to talk to Him about, the questions you have. Feel free and have fun. Your father wants to have a chat with you. Shalom!
