My book of bible stories

My book of bible stories: Job

Hello friends, today lets take a look at Job. I’d like for us to picture Job as a 21st century billionaire, perhaps the Bill Gates of his time. He had billions of billions, houses, companies and workers, private jets. He was also blessed with ten beautiful, grown and successful children. Despite his riches and affluence, Job was a worshipper, he loved and reverenced God, he saw God as the source of his existence and dedicated his life and all he had to worship God. He was also a good father as he didn’t leave out his children from his service of God, he was constantly making sacrifices for his children’s sins. He didn’t take any chances, so that incase they had mistakenly said or did something to wrong God.

The Bible described Job as upright and blameless which means he did not deserve everything that happened to him…. ‘There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil’ Job 1:1.
The devil is never happy when you are reigning as King in life, he tries to mess things up and make you lose everything. It really baffles me when people go through perilous situations and they say God is making them go through it, let’s not get it wrong that’s the devil’s work, that has always been the devil’s work since the garden of Eden, ‘The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy’ John 10:10. This scripture definitely refers to the devil because Jesus continued and said; I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly…John 10:10. Abundant life has good health, prosperity and everything good under it. God doesn’t make bad stuff happen to you, the devil does.

Maybe in your heart, you are like but God gave the devil permission to touch Job, to take away everything and inflict him with sickness, Satan made it seemed like Job trusted and pleased God because God had blessed him but God is discerner of thoughts and intents of man. He knew Job, he knew Job would never curse Him. Believers today, we only sign the ‘in good and in good’, in health and in wealth contract with God. The truth is bad stuff will happen to you, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world’ John 16:33.
It is inevitable, there was no one has upright as Jesus and on different occasions, they still tried to take his life. The believer’s life is not the goody-too shoes life, it is not a bed of roses, there is still a devil in the world who will tempt you with sicknesses, poverty, depression just so you can think there is no God or God doesn’t care about you. The devil really doesn’t have new tricks and every time he loses. Let’s go on and see how the devil lost to Job after he took all his blessings and inflicted Job with ailment, Job 1:22;
‘And he said, Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord’.

This was Job’s response when they told him he just lost everything he had even his children. In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong, he had absolute reverence for God. I tried to put my self in Job’s shoes and thought of what my reply would be, would you ever utter that statement if I just lost everything I had for no solid reason? I’d like for you do the same. Whatever our answers are, if they aren’t like Job’s, we are wrong. Come what may, a believer’s life should be a life of continuous reverence and thanksgiving to God despite perilous times. We need to always remember that there is still God, that He cares about us and whatever we are going through is only for a while. Perilous times and situations aren’t God’s plan for us, however we live in a world controlled by the devil.

Remember, Adam sold out to the devil and gave him the dominion to rule and dominate the world which God initially gave Adam. Hence the reason the devil is able to sometimes manipulate situations and make us think God would have us suffer certain things. So again friends, God is not responsible for bad stuff happening to you, the devil is….Job 2:2. Satan went back to God to ask Job be inflicted with sicknesses so he’d curse God, after Job was inflicted with sicknesses, he became like a beggar on the street and had his wife advise him to curse God but this was his response to her; Job 2:10…’But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

Forward Step: Dear Believer, the only reason you are called a believe-r is because you believe in God’s love for you and His sovereignty over all things. Don’t throw your faith to the dust when you are faced with trials and temptations. James 1:2….’My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience’. There is still a key to restoration that the devil doesn’t understand, it’s Joy. Use that against him and see your victory over just as Job. We would take a look at how Job used Joy triumph over the devil in our next post, looking forward to sharing with you.
